Employment and Company Information for Bronze Man Books Press

Interviews for acceptance into the Art of Publishing course are held biannually for the upcoming semesters; students entering the program understand the privilege and level of commitment that is expected of them.

With more and more students from all different majors contributing to our Editorial, Production, Marketing, and Sales staffs, the press Books draws from several varying areas of study in order to bring to life the chapbooks, children’s books, poetry collections, photo histories, and all the quality products of Bronze Man Books.

Interviews will be held for Millikin students wishing to take the course "The Art of Publishing" (EN382/AR380, 1-3 cr.) on Advising/Scheduling Day (Nov. 6) in the MAC Lab. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the MAC Lab.

Course Information

Art of Publishing provides an active learning experience based on active participation as an editor, designer or manager for the Bronze Man Books student publishing company at Millikin. This course focuses on strategies and issues of running a small publishing company, with a practical production experience of developing and publishing books. This course will be co-taught in the Media Arts Center by professors Randy Brooks and Ed Walker. All students are interviewed for Bronze Man Books staff position by the current Bronze Man Book Board.

Art Director/Lead Designer

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student with knowledge in publishing and artistic design to fill the position of Art Director/Lead Designer. This individual will lead the design department and be instrumental in the design of products.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

- highly creative
- able to work under pressure and deadlines
- able to understand people

- knowledge of adobe programs and other standard design programs

TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES

- manages day to day tasks of design team
- defines project parameters
- liaison between production manager and design team
- chooses design team based on project

Designer

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student to fill the position of designer. This individual will work closely with other designers in the layout and design of Bronze Man Books products.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

- work in a tight and immoveable schedule

- experience with Adobe programs and other standard design and layout programs

Editor

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student with knowledge in publishing and editing to fill the position of Editor. This individual will oversee the entire Editorial and Legal department insuring open communication and teamwork.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Strong organizational and numerical skills
-Ability to work with and/or lead a team
-Ability to delegate tasks
-Ability to work to deadlines
-Thorough knowledge of research practices and methodology
-Previous editorial experience a must
-Strong attention to detail
-Ability to analyze data
-Must enjoy reading
-Self-confidence when selling ideas
-Familiarity with any of the Adobe design programs, Quark, and/or Microsoft Office
-Creativity, energy, and enthusiasm

TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES

-Assigning and editing new material
-Evaluating material for style, tone, content, and accuracy
-Supervising a team of fact-checkers
-Representing the Editorial Department in board meetings

Assistant Editor

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student with knowledge in publishing and editing to fill the position of Assistant Editor. This individual will work in conjunction with the editorial and legal department and implement open communication and teamwork.

Acquisitions Editor

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student with knowledge in publishing and editing to fill the position of Acquisitions Editor. This individual will work in conjunction with the editorial and legal department and implement open communication and teamwork.

Legal Research

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student with knowledge in publishing, editing, and legalities to fill a position in Legal Research. This individual will work in conjunction with all other departments and implement open communication and teamwork.

-Previous editorial experience preferred, but training is possible

Production Manager

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student with knowledge in publishing and understands the production process to fill the position of production manager. This individual will oversee the entire production department ensuring production timeliness and product integrity.

Sales Manager

Bronze Man Books of Decatur, Illinois is looking for a Millikin student to fill the position of Sales Manager. This person will be responsible for running the sales team as they work to sell and distribute Bronze Man Books products.
