Accomplishments of the Spring 2007 Staff

Published the first BMB picture book for children, Ants in the Band Room by Laura Podeschi. Worked with the author, Laura Podeschi, to test the market through readings in the children's departments at libraries, in elementary schools, and at Baby TALK, a local early childhood literacy program. Designed the layout and graphic design for the book for alternative page sizes, culminating in the final size based on maximun economy while maintaining high quality four-color printing. Received bids from three printing companies, negotiating a final agreement and placing the book order. Created a marketing plan for multiple events—author readings on campus and off-campus, in libraries, at schools, book signings at book stores, and a combined exhibit and reading at one of the After Five Live events at the Blue Connection. Marketed the book directly to local book sellers and music stores.

Launched the Bronze Man Books web site, originally designed by Nicole Fucinari.

Received a significant gift donation from a local book publisher to provide seed money for start up costs of the first publication. Received a Coleman Foundation entrepreneurship startup business award.

Edited, designed, printed and hand-sewed the first BMB chapbook, Mathematics of Fire by Josh Wild.
